| New Vikings Stadium is a Work of Art |
| By Sally Haase May 16, 2013 The Minnesota Vikings revealed the design for their new stadium that will be built in the same place of their current home- the Metrodome. There have been many drawings of what a new stadium would look like and the final design was the best of the bunch. My first reaction to the new design was “Wow”. The design is modern with lots of glass to allow in lots of natural light and heat. That should save on the heating bill in the winter, but could make the stadium really hot in the summer, forcing the air conditioning to run more than needed. The stadium is enclosed (smart) which will allow for perfect conditions for the games and it also gives Minneapolis the chance to be the host of the Super Bowl. Then the only worries about a Super Bowl Sunday snow storm will be the snow plows keeping the roads clear and sanded. Another excellent feature of the stadium is that it set up to be converted into five different sports. Football, baseball, basketball, soccer, and hockey. Perfect setups for the NCAA final four, Wrestlemania, and Olympic events. With Minneapolis considering bidding for the 2024 games, they need a stadium with multiple purposes, and the Vikings stadium could be used for any number of Olympic events. If the state could land one or two of the events I listed above it would bring a lot of new money into the state and could be paid off a bit sooner. The Vikings haven’t officially broke ground on the stadium so it will be a few years until we see the finished product. Based on the drawing of the new stadium it is one of the coolest designs for a stadium I have ever seen and it will lead the way for future stadiums. Hopefully the design is one that will be relevant for a long time because there is too much money at stake for the Vikings to get bored with the stadium after 30 years and want a new one. Let’s have the Vikings celebrate their 100th anniversary in this new stadium. |
