Argos Clinch GSC East Division Title

Pensacola, FL- The University of West Florida Argos were able to claim the
East Division title in the GSC on Sunday. The Argos came into the series
against Valdosta State needing only one win to clinch the title, the Blazers
however would need two wins.
The Argos struggled the in first game of the series falling to the Blazers 18-
6. The Argos were able to battle back and forth with the Blazers until the fifth
innings when the Blazer were able to for score four runs, and the Argos
were never able to regain the lead. The Blazer’s then scored two more in
the seventh and one more in the eighth. In the ninth inning the Blazers
sealed with game with an eight run inning. Making the final score 18-6.
The second game of the series ended better for the Argos, with a 14-5 win
over Valdosta State. The Argos were able to score in ever inning except the
fourth. The Argos scored two in the first and then added on three more in
the second. In the third inning Jack Materne was able to hit his fourth
homerun of the season giving the Argos a 6-2 lead over the Blazers. In the
fifth the offense didn’t slow down with three RBI by Greg Pron, Jack
Materne, and Brandon Brewer.
The Blazers were able to score two in the top of the sixth, however the
Argos were able score four in the bottom of the sixth, sealing the win for the
Argos.
The Argos claim their third GSC East Division title in school history, and
their first since 2004.
