| Twins Eliminate Trees |
| By Sally Haase March 1, 2011 MINNEAPOLIS, MN-- Last summer when I took a tour of Target Field, maintenance crews re-painted the batter’s eye in centerfield with a less glossy finish because of the glare the sun created against the glossy paint. Also in centerfield are a Minnesota staple- pine trees. But when batters complained that the trees made it difficult to see the ball, the Twins took action and have removed the pine tress from centerfield. But the Twins are not just tossing the trees in the garbage, some will be replanted within the stadium area, one will be given away as a prize, one will be auctioned off to benefit the Twins community fund, and the rest will be replanted in Minnesota’s state parks. What a great solution to the tree problem, batters will (hopefully) see the ball and the trees will continue to grow all over the state and it also gives money to a great cause. The Twins pride themselves on having one of the greenest stadiums in the country so it would be a no-brainer for the team to find good homes for the trees. |
