| Twins Need to Make a Move with Liriano |
| By Sally Haase April 29, 2011 After yet another rough outing Wednesday from Minnesota Twins pitcher Francisco Liriano, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire and the front office need to have a discussion about Liriano’s future in the starting rotation and possible future with the team. In his 8-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, Liriano’s record drops to 1-4 and his ERA is now 9.13. That is a terrible line for someone who has been considered to be an Ace for the Twins. During the first inning of Wednesday night’s game Liriano left several pitches up and over the heart of the plate and guess what? Major League hitters will not miss pitches left up. Location is Liriano’s biggest problem right now; maybe a demotion to the bullpen or even the minor league club will give him some time to work on his location. The Twins have two capable starters in Kevin Slowey and Glen Perkins sitting in the bullpen right now who would be more than willing to take Liriano’s rotation spot. Also, a demotion could bring the fire back into Liriano’s eyes. Watching his starts this month, I get the impression that he could care less that he is not pitching well. Come on Francisco! Get Mad! Show the front office and Twins fans that you can still be that great pitcher who blew everyone away. If not, well then enjoy your time in the bullpen or get ready to pack your bags and go to a new team because your performance is not going to cut it. |
