| Comedian’s Challenge to Trumbo |
| By Sally Haase July 12, 2013 Comedian and “Chelsea Lately” regular Sarah Colonna is a huge fan of the Los Angeles Angels and is not afraid to show it. If you follow her on twitter, you know she will keep you up to date on her beloved team. Bad or good, the updates Colonna gives are very entertaining. She has been a fan since she was a teenager and her father was a reporter who covered the Angels, Colonna covers her time hanging out with the Angels of the 80’s in her book “Life as I Blow it”. An interesting read if you are a fan of Colonna or of humor books in general. With the Angels underperforming this season; Colonna has come up with an idea; for every home run Mark Trumbo (referred to as “Trumbombs” by the Angels fans) hits for the remainder of the season; Colonna will donate $200 to the charity of Trumbo’s choice. Trumbo picked the team’s charity- the Angels Foundation and so far Colonna has $200 set aside for the Foundation. The Angels Foundation does a lot of good work in the southern California area, giving grants to healthcare organizations, youth camps, music programs, at-risk youth shelters. The Foundation also provides $ 4,000 scholarships to five worthy students in Orange County annually. The scholarships winners are notified when they are still in middle school and will receive the money upon acceptance to a four year college. 2010 was the first year that all five students received their scholarships. The Foundation is a great way for the home team to give back to their community and the addition of famous fan Colonna promoting the Foundation with her home run challenge it can only mean more money will go into the Foundation. And if Trumbo can gets on a tear in the second half of the season; Colonna may have to ask for a raise. |
