| Rangers Return to World Series |
| By Sally Haase October 16, 2011 At the end of the World Series last season when the San Francisco Giants celebrated their victory over the Texas Rangers everybody said the Giants had a team strong enough to make a return appearance in the Series. The Giants never even made the playoffs and the Rangers did and it is the Rangers who are going to the World Series for the second consecutive year. The Rangers did it the way they always do, by pounding out hits and runs all over. They punched their ticket Saturday night with a whopping 15-5 win over the Detroit Tigers. Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz set a League Championship Series record with six home runs in the series, and the series only went six games. Cruz was also named the ALCS MVP. Ron Washington has put together a great team of gritty players who are ready to grind out some wins. The pitching staff lacks a true ace, but when they had an ace last season in Cliff Lee things did not pan out so well. If anything the ace of the Rangers pitching staff is their closer Neftali Feliz, but the starting staff is strong. The starters were able to take down the red hot Rays in round one and then took down the power happy Tigers with the dominant Justin Verlander leading the Charge. As of right now the Cardinals and Brewers are still to be decided, but whoever it is that will win the National League pennant baseball fans can rest assured that we will be treated to a great World Series. |
