| Plouffe Becoming a Fan Favorite |
| By Sally Haase July 5, 2012 Last season the Minnesota Twins had a player they liked in Trevor Plouffe, but they really did not know what to do with him. He was like a younger version of Michael Cuddyer, solid at every position he was asked to play but not outstanding at any. The bat of Plouffe was the Twins biggest draw to the utility player, whatever the team saw in his bat the fans were not seeing until this season. Now we have seen why we had to suffer through Plouffe’s interesting, if not bad footwork at shortstop, errant throws and general confusion at every position. The 2011 season just may have been the growing pains Plouffe needed to get acquainted with the major leagues because this season Plouffe has taken over for the struggling Danny Valencia at third base and has found a home. The fans are taking notice too; chants of “PLOOOOOFFE” were heard all around Target Field on Sunday when Plouffe would step into the batter’s box and after both of his home runs. In a season that has featured more for fans to complain about than cheer about Plouffe and teammate Josh Willingham have given fans something to get excited about. For the past few weeks the two players have been jockeying back and forth for the team lead in home runs. Once Plouffe ties Willingham for the lead it is only a few innings before Willingham takes over the lead again. For a team that has been so left handed power heavy for years, it is good to see a power surge from the right side of the plate, and we finally see the reason the Twins never gave up on Trevor Plouffe. |
