| Oregon Comes Back |
| By Isiah Mungai October 4, 2010 In a matchup between two top 10 teams the Oregon Ducks came back to overwhelm the Stanford Cardinals 52-31. In a story of two halves the Cardinals came out strong after trailing 3-0 early they needed only 4 minutes to score 21 points to end the first quarter. After Oregon cut the lead down to 11 they came out with a surprised onside kick that was executed perfectly as the kicker recovered it. You could see the momentum changing when the Ducks took the ball down and scored again. After each team exchanged touchdowns the Cardinals ended the half with a time expiring field goal to take a 31-24 lead. As the first half was all Stanford the second half belonged to the Ducks. They seemed to make all the halftime adjustments that were required to get back in the game scoring 14 points in both the third and fourth quarters, while holding the Cardinals to zero points. Both QB Darron Thomas and RB LaMichael James had career days. Thomas passed for 238 yards and 3 touchdowns and added another 117 yards and a touchdown on the ground. While James had the second best rushing game in Ducks history rushing for 257 yards and 3 touchdowns. That mark was only surpassed by Ontario Smith's 285 yard game back in 2001 against Washington State. The Cardinals came into the second half perfect in the red zone scoring on all 28 chances, but the Ducks held them scoreless on both of their chances. Stanford came into this game winless since 1970 when they have been ranked in the top 10. The Cardinals have also upset Oregon twice while the Ducks were ranked in the top 10, once in 2001 to give then #5 Oregon their only loss of the season and last year over the then #7 Ducks when Toby Gearhart ran for a school record 223 yards for Oregon’s only Pac 10 loss. With the Ducks now 5-0 they have passed Boise State in both the AP and US Today polls and are ranked #3 behind only Alabama and Ohio State. |
