Michael Bourn is Proving the Astros Made the right
Decision
By Zach Green

Houston, TX- It’s no secret that Michael Bourn had a break out year in 2009
for the Houston Astros.  He posted a .285 batting average, stealing an NL
leading 61 stolen bases, and winning his first gold glove with a fielding
percentage of .992, with only 3 errors in center field.  But before all that he
was the guy known as the one the Astros traded Brad Lidge for.  The
November 2007 trade entailed, Michael Bourn and two minor leaguers
going to the Astros sending Brad Lidge and Eric Bruntlett to the Phillies.

It’s also no secret that Michael Bourn posted a dismal .229 batting average
in 2008.  But the fact that Brad Lidge had a perfect regular season
recording 41 saves in 41 opportunities definitely made the Astros look as
though they didn’t know what they were doing.  Not to mention Lidge went
on that year to win a World Series ring with the Phillies.  But all this didn’t
seem to phase Bourn or affect his drive.

Just one year later in 2009 Bourn would put up the numbers the Astros
brought him in to do.  But after all that, Bourn isn’t content.  As you can see
in his play in the start of this season he isn’t letting off the pedal.  So far in
the first 17 games he has batted .328, with 8 stolen bases.  Not to mention
a fielding percentage of 1.000 and an on base percentage of .435.

From the looks of it, this homegrown product out of Humble, TX isn’t going
to stop any time soon.  He will continue to try and prove his critics wrong by
playing the way he has last year, straight into this year.  If there’s one thing I
know, Bourn will be a spark and a bright spot for this team for quite some
time.
