| Mauer Shut Down for Season |
| By Sally Haase Septemeber 17, 2011 MINNEAPOLIS, MN – As if the Minnesota Twins season could not get any worse, it found a way to. Twins catcher Joe Mauer has been diagnosed with pneumonia and will miss the rest of the season. Doctors at the Mayo Clinic diagnosed Mauer on Thursday and recommended two weeks of rest and medication, effectively ending Mauer’s disappointing and injury plagued season. Mauer will end his season with a .287 batting average three home runs and 30 RBI. With the Twins dangerously close to losing 100 games this season (they need to win four games to avoid that mark) it is time to write this season off, play the September call ups to see who of that crew will fit into the long term plans of the Twins. And hopefully for Mauer’s sake the doctors have finally gotten to the bottom of the general pain and soreness that Mauer has been fighting all season and he will be in top condition by Spring Training 2012. |
