| MLB Player Profile: Orlando Cabrera |
| By Sally Haase June 12, 2011 Cabrera to Cabrera to LaPorta or Santana has been a winning double play combination for Manny Acta’s Cleveland Indians. One of the Cabrera’s is the new Indians second baseman Orlando Cabrera who is in his first season with the club. With Asdrubal Cabrera already in place at shortstop for the Indians, Orlando made the move to second base and it has been a successful change for the veteran player. Cabrera started his career in 1997 with the Montreal Expos where he played until 2004 until he was traded to the Boston Red Sox on the final day of the Major League Baseball trading deadline. Cabrera helped the Red Sox break the curse to win the World Series, since 2004 Cabrera contributed to the playoff runs of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Chicago White Sox, Minnesota Twins, and the Cincinnati Reds. The reason Cabrera wins wherever he goes is he is a good player to have in the clubhouse, great defensive player and has put up solid offensive numbers in his career. He is a player who does not take himself too seriously and can keep other players relaxed. One example: while on the disabled list last season Cabrera wore a bat boy uniform and was the Reds bat boy for the game. With the Indians struggling recently it’s hard to say if they will keep their hold on the top spot of the American League Central. They are a young team who could implode under the pressure of a playoff race but a player with the playoff experience that Orlando Cabrera has is a great help to a team that is building itself back into a winner. |
