| Killebrew Ends Cancer Battle |
| By Sally Haase May 14, 2011 Former Minnesota Twins great Harmon Killebrew, who has been fighting esophageal cancer for six months has ended his treatment and will enter hospice care. Killebrew said in a statement released Friday that his illness has progressed to the point where a cure is unlikely and that he is comfortable with the next step and looks forward to spending his final days with his wife, Nina by his side. In his statement, Killebrew thanked all the fans for the support and concern they have shown him during his treatments. Killebrew was scheduled to greet Twins fans at Target Field’s gate 3 during the Twins home opener last month, unable to attend because of his treatments, his sons greeted the fans. The 74 year old Killebrew ended his career with 573 home runs, 11 All-Star appearances and was elected to the baseball Hall of Fame in 1984. |
