| Tracy Jones Gives Back |
| By Sally Haase March 20, 2012 Even the biggest of baseball fans may not know of Tracy Jones, an average player who spent a few years in the majors with a few different teams. Jones played five seasons in the Major Leagues with the Reds, Mariners, Tigers, Expos, and Giants, only playing in 100 games in one season- 1987. He was never a big success but his career numbers are respectable with a career .273 average in 493 games. After retiring from baseball Jones became known as a “shock jock”, hosting “Extra Innings” on WLW, a Cincinnati radio station. Jones approach to his radio show was interesting. Those who dare called in to question the motives of the manager were asked if they played professional baseball. Jones’ attitude is if you haven’t played the game, you don’t know enough to talk about it. The attitude angered some listeners and others loved it and Jones. Now Jones is giving back to his fans. Two weeks ago Jones said on his radio show that he was giving back to his fans by sending an autograph card to any who emailed him with their address. The only thing the fans needed to do was give Jones their address, Jones would supply the card and the postage. Jones is more generous than other players who still won’t sign through the mail even if you supply a card and the self address stamped envelope. It is important that personalities like Jones develop a positive relationship with their fans and it will likely gain Jones some more fans, myself included. It is beyond cool that Jones decided to do this, he may not have been a huge star on the diamond but his personality has turned him into a star on the radio and he found a great way to say thank you to his fans. |
