| Jets WR Holmes Chooses Sanchez |
| By Fred Perdue May 13, 2013 Part of the reason why Mark Sanchez struggled so mightily during the 2012 season was the fact that he lost his top target -- WR Santonio Holmes -- early on in the campaign, and management didn't do a great job of adding other receiving targets behind Holmes in the months prior. Now healthy, Holmes should be of great help to Sanchez (or David Garrard or Geno Smith or Greg McElroy) as the Jets look to improve on a lackluster 2012 campaign that got GM Mike Tannenbaum fired. And Holmes himself has an idea of which of those passers should be behind center in order to do that. During an appearance on "Pro Football Talk" on the NBC Sports Network, Holmes was asked to identify the club's starting QB, to which he replied, "Right now Sanchez. And that's who we're going with and we're going to continue this road until time permits." For what it's worth, Holmes was also quite supportive of Jets HC Rex Ryan in his time on the program, as Ryan is already perceived to be on the hot seat before the offseason has really gotten rolling. Coincidentally, Holmes, Sanchez and Ryan may all be looking for new gigs next offseason, so perhaps they'll reunite somewhere else for 2014. |
