| Gibson Impressive in Debut |
| By Sally Haase June 29, 2013 MINNEAPOLIS, MN-- There was a buzz around Target Field Saturday afternoon and that buzz was created by the Major League debut of 25 year old Kyle Gibson. The debut turned into Gibson’s first Major League win with the Minnesota Twins defeating the Kansas City Royals 6-2. With the Twins pitching the way it has been, Gibson is a much needed breath of fresh air. If his debut is any indication of how his career with the Twins will go, it will be a good one. Gibson pitched six innings (91 pitches) gave up two runs, struck out five and did not allow a walk. The first inning went as easy as Gibson could have hoped for, he got the first batter out fairly quickly and he recorded his first strike out against Royals designated hitter Billy Butler. An impressive hitter to record your first strike out against. The Twins offense gave Gibson a good lead by batting around in the bottom of the first inning; putting five runs on the board and chasing Royals starter Wade Davis in the second inning. As for any hiccups, Gibson just had one so-so inning where he gave up the two runs but with the big lead the Twins gave him it was not a cause for stress. It did not look like a typical Major League debut for a Twins pitcher; Gibson looked like a veteran pitcher on the mound and with a few more starts like Saturday; he will be a staple in the Twins rotation for several more seasons. Gibson will have an interesting go of it in his next start when he faces the New York Yankees on July 4th. |
