A Vote Of Confidence For Gators QB |
By Fred Perdue May 9, 2013 Jeff Driskel's first season as a starting quarterback with the Florida Gators left him 10th in the SEC (out of 13 qualifiers) in passer rating. It's hard to win with that kind of quarterbacking, but Gators coach Will Muschamp has made it clear that Driskel is his man. “It's huge, not just from the standpoint of Jeff. Obviously, the quarterback position is key — him continuing to mature and grow in the role of being quarterback at the University of Florida,” Muschamp said this past week. “Again, I've been nothing but pleased to this point of how he's attacked the offseason mentally and how he's worked.” “It's watching film, it's understanding schematically where to take the ball, (understanding) where you're protected,” Muschamp said. “The film study, the mental repetition is so vital for all players, but especially as cerebral as the (quarterback) position can be, that's vital. “Then you go into where coaches can't be around (in the offseason). Now you've got a guy that's taking an entire offense and an entire team on the field and going through a player-run practice. Those are things to me where his growth and importance of his role on our football team is so critical.” Ultimately Driskel has to go out on the field and prove to his fellow teammates and coaches that he is the guy buy making plays and being a leader on and off the field. Can he do it? Most certainly he can. Will he do it? That is to be determined. |
