| Fielder Wins Home Run Derby |
| By Sally Haase July 10, 2012 The three hour affair known as the Home Run Derby to kick off the All-Star break with eight of the best home run hitters in the game. In the end it came down to two of the American League’s best with Jose Bautista and Prince Fielder in the finals and it was Fielder who was the victor in the derby that featured some unruly Royals fans. The American League team’s captain, the New York Yankees Robinson Cano was the target of jeers the whole night from the fans who felt Royal Billy Butler should have been included in this year’s team. Cano did bring the jeers on himself by saying that he would like to have a Royals player on his team, but after talking with Albert Pujols, who suggested Mark Trumbo, the addition of a Royal was quickly forgotten. Yes, it would have been great for Royals fans to see one of their players hit some home runs and maybe win the derby. Trumbo put on a great hitting display but apparently not enough for the fans to forget he took the place reserved for Butler. The Royals fans did enjoy watching Cano go 0 for ten in the derby, cheering every time a batted ball did not make it over the fence. |
