| Cuddyer Makes First All-Star Team |
| By Sally Haase July 3, 2011 The Major League Baseball All-Stars were named this weekend and with the way the Minnesota Twins have struggled this season, it was anyone’s guess who would represent the Twins in Arizona for the mid-summer classic. At first it looked like Jason Kubel, who was having a breakout start to the season would be the Twins lone All-Star. But Kubel went down with an injury and the spot was open to any Twin willing to step up. The lone Twin named to this year’s All-Star team is Michael Cuddyer. A big congratulations to Cuddyer on this much deserved honor. I’m sure American League manager Ron Washington is very happy to have someone like Cuddyer on his team; Washington will be able to replace Cuddyer with anyone on the field except catcher. But I would be good money if Cuddyer was asked to catch, he would be more than happy to do so. Versatility is important in an All-Star game, particularly if the game enters extra innings and you need to get creative in shifting your players around. Cuddyer’s comfort level with the infield and the outfield could prove to be a big advantage for the American League for this year’s game. |
