| Gamecocks are One Step Closer to First Ever Title |
| By Melinda Dove June 28, 2010 Omaha, NE- South Carolina is now one game away from winning their first national title in baseball. The Gamecocks were able to get a 7-1 over UCLA Monday night. Getting the Gamecocks one step closer to what they couldn’t achieve in 1975,1977, or 2002. This was the first ever meeting for the two teams, and the Gamecocks got off to a fast start scoring in each of the first three innings. South Carolina’s Starting Pitcher Blake Cooper had an outstanding night, coming off three days rest. He allowed only three hits, walked one, and struck out ten batters. In the fifth inning he allowed a single and was then able to retire eleven batters in a row. UCLA’s Gerrit Cole didn’t fair so well against the Gamecocks. Cole, who was coming off a full week of rest gave up six runs, four earned, on eleven hits, and pitched for seven innings. USC’s Bobby Haney, had two hits, and three RBI’s. Jackie Bradley JR, Christian Walker, and Evan Marzilli each had two hits. Every starter for South Carolina had at least one hit. South Carolina plays UCLA Tuesday at 7:30 ET. If South Carolina wins it will their first title, however if UCLA wins they teams will play again on Wednesday at 7:30 ET. |
