| Oakland A’s Hit with Tragedy |
| By Sally Haase Oct. 4, 2012 It was a whirlwind 36 hours for the Oakland Athletics, not long after clinching a playoff berth, relief pitcher Pat Neshek tweeted to his followers that his wife was now in labor. Their son, Gehrig, was born and 23 hours later he was gone without any obvious explanation. Needless to say baseball is the last thing on the minds of Neshek, his family and his teammates. With the A’s winning the AL west, the team does have some time to grieve and try to get back to something half way normal before playing the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. A tragedy like this puts things into perspective where suddenly this game does not matter as much as it did two days ago. But the game can also be very therapeutic for someone going through a difficult time; the A’s will rally around their teammate and play their hearts out for the Neshek family and little Gehrig. Pat is known as being one of the nicest and fan friendliest players in the game, his passion for collecting autographs have made him one of the most generous signers in the game. He is happy to interact with his fans on twitter and through his official website, and there is no doubt in my mind that the Neshek family is receiving thousands of prayers and comforting words from fans. |
